iTunes backup information includes text messages, notes, call history, contact favorites, sound settings, widget settings, and more. In addition, photos in Camera Roll or Saved Photos are also backed up. To protect iTunes backups on your computer, you can use password protection and encryption.

However, when transferring using MobiMover, you are required to input iTunes password to unlock, so that the software can obtain the data.

This article shows how to create/turn off/change the password using iTunes.

Create Your iTunes Backup Password

iTunes can backup your device automatically or manually when you connect it to your computer. It also has encryption feature to secure your data.

Here are the steps to protect your backup on iTunes:

1. Connect your mobile device to your PC via a USB cable.
2. Launch iTunes and select the device by clicking the Device button near the top left of the iTunes window.
3. Click Summary.
4. Click Back Up Now (below Backups).
5. To encrypt your backups, select "Encrypt [device] Backup," type a password, then click Set Password.

Turn off Your Backup Password

The process of disabling the encryption setting is just as easy as the password setup process. The steps to follow are:
1. Connect your mobile device to your PC via a USB cable.

2. Launch iTunes and select the device.
3. Un-tick the "Encrypt [device] Backup" radio button in Summary.

You will be prompted to enter your backup password to effect this new change.

Change Your Backup Password

The steps to change the password are:
1. Connect your mobile device to your PC via a USB cable.
2. Launch iTunes and select the device.
3. In Summary, click "Change Password" in Backups.

NOTE: Write down your password and store it somewhere safe, because there's no way to recover your iTunes backups without this password. Provided that backup password is forgotten, you could make guesses of what your password is since an unlimited password entry attempt is possible.
